After years of hiding statistics, Netflix has slowly begun to release more information about its movies and series. A list of the platform’s 10 most successful original film hits was revealed, taking into consideration the number of views during the first month of their release.

The Perfect Date (5.8/10)
Released in 2019, The Perfect Date attracted 48 million viewers on Netflix in four weeks. It is a romantic comedy that tells the story of Brooks Rattigan, portrayed by Noah Centineo, who, in order to save money for college, creates an app, where anyone can pay him to play the perfect stand-in boyfriend for any occasion. It has won 2 Teen Choice Awards as well as 1 People’s Choice Awards, USA.

 

The Platform (7.0/10)
With 56 million viewers, The Platform is a 2019 horror, sci-fi and thriller film which revolves around The Hole – a vertical prison with one cell per level and two people per cell. Being trapped there is an endless nightmare as there is only one platform that delivers food for two minutes per day to feed from up to down. The Hole is a representation of our society with those at the top given the best of everything and willing to consume far more than necessary, oppressing those below who must suffer and fight for survival. Ivan Massagué, Zorion Eguileor and Antonia San Juan portray some of the main characters. The movie has won 9 awards.

 

The Wrong Missy (5.7/10)
The fun story of Tim who mistakenly texted someone from a nightmare blind date, thinking he has invited the woman of his dreams on a work retreat to Hawaii, appealed to 59 million Netflix users. The Wrong Missy has received positive reviews from viewers, who find it “surprisingly funny” despite the fact that it is critically loathed.

 

Triple Frontier (6.4/10)
The 2019 action and adventure movie is about five friends and former special forces operatives (played by Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal) who reunite to take down a South American drug dealer. Their skills, loyalties and morals are pushed to a breaking point in an epic battle for survival as they unleash a chain of unintended consequences. Triple Frontier was nominated for Favourite Drama Movie and Location Team of the Year.

 

The Irishman (7.9/10)
The crime and drama film, starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, has won 71 awards since its release in November 2019 and is nominated for 10 Oscars. The Irishman is a biography of American labor union official Frank Shreeran, watched by 64 million on the streaming platform.

Murder Mystery (6.0/10)
Starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, Murder Mystery is a 2019 action comedy about a New York cop and his wife who go on a vacation in attempt to reignite the spark in their relationship but end up getting framed and on the run for the death of an elderly billionaire. It has won PCA’s Favorite Comedy Movie award and was watched by 73 million people.

 

6 Underground (6.1/10)
The 2019 action comedy thriller attracted 83 million viewers on Netflix. It presents a new kind of action hero (portrayed by Ryan Reynolds) and six untraceable agents who have buried their pasts so they can change the future.

 

Spenser Confidential (6.2/10)
Released in 2020, Spenser Confidential has made its way to top 3 most watched movies on Netflix with 85 million streams in the first four weeks. The action comedy tells the story of ex-cop Spenser (Mark Wahlberg) and his no-nonsense roommate Hawk (Winston Duke) who team up to take down criminals.

 

Bird Box (6.6/10)
Bird Box is a science-fiction horror movie, watched by 89 million and based on the novel by Josh Malerman. The drama of a mother and her two children, who make a desperate bid to reach safety after an ominous unseen presence has driven most of society to suicide, has won 5 awards since it was released in 2018.

 

Extraction
The most watched film on Netflix, with a total of 99 million streams, is the 2020 Extraction. It is based on the graphic novel “Ciudad” about a fearless black market mercenary (Chris Hemsworth) who embarks on a deadly extraction to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord.
