One of the great and last phenomena of the most viewed videos on YouTube in 2020 hides a story of suicide, nepotism and an organized community against one of the most important directors in India, one of the most prolific countries in terms of cinema .
The Sadak 2 trailer shook YouTube. So far, the preview of the Indian film that will be released on Disney's exclusive streaming platform, has almost 70 million visits, more than 600 thousand likes and… 12 million negative reactions. These indicators made it the second most disliked content in the history of the video website, surpassing, for example, Justin Beiber who had 11 million dislikes in his video clip Baby.
The trailer for Sadak 2 on YouTube shows the preview of what will be the film directed by Mahesh Bhatt and produced by Vishesh FIlms. Bhatt is one of the most recognized directors in India. He is 71 years old and has in his career with recognized films such as Daddy (1989), Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991) and, his greatest commercial success, Sadak (1991). After twenty years of being out of business, the director returns with a sequel to his most popular feature film.
Sadak 2 will star Sanjay Dutt, Pooja Bhatt, Alia Bhatt, and Aditya Roy Kapur. It shows an aging and depressed Ravi (the protagonist of Sadak) who helps a young couple confront a curious and evil enemy.
But the story around the new film by the renowned director emerged from a movement in social networks from the results of the Nepometer app. The tool measures how much nepotism there is in a film, that is, how many famous sons or daughters are part of the production. In the case of Sadak 2, the percentage that the app threw was 98% and this indicator aroused the ire of fans who turned to react negatively towards Bhatt's new production. Both Pooja and Alia are the sons of Bhatt, while Sanjay Dutt is the son of Sunit Dutt and Nargis, two benchmarks in the Indian film industry.
The situation takes place in a context in which the Bollywood community has been dismayed for months and with its operating rules under debate, after the suicide of the young actor Sushant Singh Rajput of whom, to this day, the reasons that led him to kill himself.
